Dining Area Decor Update

Hey! Today I posted on Instagram a picture of my current dining area set up. In this blogpost I talk you through the design choices I made, where I got my stuff and the things I’d still like to add to it.

The corner of shame and mess

Yeah this picture was snapped soon after I moved in, but it didn’t change for nearly two months…

When I moved to this space I had a lot of stuff to do. I wasn’t able to decorate and furnish it all right away, because I was too busy and because I didn’t have the funds to do so. Eventually every corner of my home was livable, except this corner. Still filled with moving boxes, no chairs at my new white table and no real decor ideas. It was about time to tackle this problem.

Picking new chairs for the space

Cheap but stylish, so if I want to get new chairs, I don’t have to feel bad about it.

In my old place I ended up mixing and matching different chairs and benches around my dining table. Because this space asks for a slightly more minimalistic approach, I wanted to have matching chairs here. I knew I wanted something light and airy, with slender legs in a chrome finish. I first looked into these Marcel Breuer chairs, but this didn’t really work out. Then I just went for the cheapest of the cheapest in chair world. I found these ones, in a lot of colours.

Colour scheme and design choices

Current dining area set up, quite like the feel of it.

In this blogpost I talked about the trend of hyper blue in interiors. For a while I looked into adding a pop of colour in my home, and I thought this was the perfect moment. Then I had my base ready: blue chairs, a white table and a wooden floor. To dress it up I bit, I added a few of my plants in terracotta pots. A nice little print with pink and blue above the table finishes the decor for now.

Finishing up the design in the future

For the future, I have even more plans for this corner. First of all, I want to get rid of the curtains and replace them by shutter blinds in the same colour as my window frames. Then, I’d like to add a minimalistic shelving unit above the table, decorated with books, plants and ceramics. At the end of the table, I’d like to add a vintage stool or bench in darker wood, to tie in with the daybed and my teak dresser.

What do you think?

So, what do you think of this newly decorated corner? What would you have done differently? Let me know in the comments down below! If you want to tag along between blog uploads, you can check me out on Instagram. See you next time!

  • I remember the Instagram story about the chairs. You played that well ;). If I remember correctly you were thinking about the grey ones, because you once bought a yellow chair and that wasn’t your smartest move. I like it with the print above the table. The blue from your rug is a different colour but it stays in the blue family.
The things on your wishlist are cool, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up with something completly different…

    • Haha indeed! Around that time I ordered them, delivery took a bit of a while 😅. I was going for grey indeed, but I was feeling cheeky and went for the blue. Don’t regret it yet!
And yeah, the chance that I’ll end up with something completely different is high!
